Bartın University (BARÜ) was among the universities receiving the highest number of “Accessible University Program Badges,” with 7 programs recognized at the ceremony organized by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

The “Accessible University Flags and Program Badge Award Ceremony” was held by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) to promote the development of an inclusive ecosystem in universities. At the ceremony, 7 programs from Bartın University (BARÜ), which has carried out significant work toward an accessible university and campus vision, were awarded the “Accessible University Program Badge.” With this achievement, BARÜ ranked among the top 7 higher education institutions receiving the highest number of badges, once again confirming its vision of an accessible and inclusive university. Our Faculty’s Department of Political Science and Public Administration was also awarded the “Accessible University Program Badge” due to its efforts in line with accessible and inclusive education principles.

The ceremony was attended by BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya and Dr. Lecturer Tahir Mete Artar, Director of the BARÜ Special Education Application and Research Center. The “Accessible University Program Badge” awarded to BARÜ was presented to Rector Akkaya by the President of YÖK, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar.

In his speech at the ceremony, YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar stated:
“Ensuring that university campuses are fully accessible for students with disabilities is one of the fundamental requirements of equal opportunity in higher education and education in dignity. Eliminating physical barriers, making learning environments usable for all individuals, and ensuring equal participation in academic processes are crucial for students with disabilities to fully realize their potential.”

President Özvar also noted that in the 2024–2025 academic year, 1,768 applications from 112 universities were evaluated, and 124 applications received the ‘Accessible University Flag’ while 138 applications were awarded the ‘Accessible University Program Badge.’

Rector Akkaya expressed his satisfaction that 7 programs received the badge and stated that efforts to improve accessibility in all areas—including educational activities, social life, and physical spaces—will continue.
